Shaima Alawadi, an Iraqi-American wife and mother of five, died days after being brutally attacked in her own home last month.  A hateful note was found beside her body after she was attacked, stating that she was a terrorist and should go home, leading many to consider her case a hate crime.  The FBI and El Cajon Police department in California are investigating her case.  http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/03/31/us-crime-iraqi-hate-idUSBRE82U0HK20120331

4. Daniel Wildcat: "Indigenous Realism in the Face of Industrial Romanticism: The Climate Change We Need"
Date: Monday, April 16, 2012

Professor Daniel Wildcat, Ph.D., Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas, is an accomplished scholar who writes on indigenous knowledge, technology, environment, and education.  He is co-director of the Haskell Environmental Research Studies Center and a Yuchi member of the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma. His latest book is Red Alert! Saving the Planet with Indigenous Knowledge. Dr. Wildcat is the coauthor, with Vine Deloria, Jr., of Power and Place: Indian Education in America, and coeditor, with Steve Pavlik, of Destroying Dogma: Vine Deloria, Jr., and His Influence on American Society.



5. “What is Critical Mixed Race Studies?” 
The biennial Critical Mixed Race Studies Conference, will be held at DePaul University in Chicago on November 1-4, 2012.
The CMRS conference brings together scholars from a variety of disciplines nationwide. Recognizing that the diverse disciplines that have nurtured Mixed Race Studies have fostered different approaches to the field, the 2012 CMRS conference is devoted to the general theme “What is Critical Mixed Race Studies?”
Critical Mixed Race Studies (CMRS) is the transracial, transdisciplinary, and transnational critical analysis of the institutionalization of social, cultural, and political orders based on dominant conceptions of race. CMRS emphasizes the mutability of race and the porosity of racial boundaries in order to critique processes of racialization and social stratification based on race. CMRS addresses local and global systemic injustices rooted in systems of racialization.

7. Arden Theatre – Professional Apprentice Program

8. 2012 Native American Pre-law Undergraduate Scholars Program, or “NA-PLUS”
June 3 – June 30, 2012
University of New Mexico (UNM) campus (Albuquerque, New Mexico)

The goal of NA-PLUS is to expose Native students to the field of law from both the academic and practical standpoints.  During their four weeks at UNM, students will participate in academic coursework focusing on Indian Law and Native legal issues and be assisted in career and academic advisement.  The program also facilitates a number of visits to tribal, state, federal courts and law firms practicing Indian law.  Participants are mentored by Native attorneys and law students, and finally, they have opportunities to develop relationships with Native students from across the country.  There is no fee to attend NA-PLUS; participants will be provided room and board and a living stipend, and will be assisted in some travel costs.

9. Gannett Talent Management Program
