NAP Weekly Announcements - Spring 2012 - Week 6

A Note from community member David Rolla:

Dear Community,
It is with a heavy heart that Los Hermanos write this email. On Sunday, April 29th Hermano Jonel Gonzalez (Beta Gamma Chapter, Pace University, Spring 2012) suffered a devastating loss when his grandparents, mother, aunt, sister and two young cousins (7 people) were involved in a fatal car accident in the Bronx. As you can imagine, Hermano Jonel and his family are beside themselves as they come to grips with the reality of this matter.
Many of you are conscious of the extraordinary expense of facilitating final arrangements for one person, multiply this number by seven and you cannot begin to imagine what the financial burden this will cause for this family. The Hermanos of Psi Chapter would like to help lighten this load for Hermano Jonel as much as possible, and therefore we are reaching out to our Dartmouth community to help us make a financial contribution toward assisting Hermano Jonel’s family at this trying time.
There are a couple of ways in which you can donate (see below for details. We recommend Da$h or WePay). If you have any questions, please feel free to blitz LUL@dartmouth.edu.
LUL is a close knit brotherhood that spans the nation, and tragedies like this shake the whole Hermandad. We sincerely thank you for your time and contribution. Please keep Hermano Jonel and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Los Hermanos of Psi Chapter
La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc.

Crooked Arrows
Dear Friends of Crooked Arrows--
As many of you know, the motion picture Crooked Arrows opens in just under four weeks.  It's the first mainstream lacrosse movie and one of the only family-friendly contemporary Native American movies ever made. The movie's co-producers and most of its cast are Native American.  Attendees of an early screening a few weeks ago at the NIGA Convention were moved and thrilled.  Here's is a short video from the making of the movie last summer in Massachusetts featuring Mashpee, Onondaga, Tuscarora, Mohawk and many other Natives.
http://vimeo.com/40913593
On Wednesday, May 9th in Syracuse, NY, the Onondaga Nation, the movie's largest investor, is hosting the Crooked Arrows world premiere. And every Native American nation is invited. Understanding that many people can't make it to Syracuse very easily, we're offering all nations the opportunity to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime cultural event.  Participating nations will immediately receive promotional materials and soon thereafter a special print of the film and a closed circuit webcast code that will beam them right onto the red carpet in Syracuse for an hour of festivities prior to and
following the screening at 8PM EDT.
Participating nations can invite as many people as they want or sell as many tickets as they like for whatever price they choose to this one-night-only screening.  Because we understand that all nations
cannot afford to purchase a screening, we're offering purchasing nations a chance to designate one other nation to enjoy the premiere event for free.  It's truly our hope to share this event with as many
Native Americans on this night as possible.
We truly need all nations signed up by next week in order to fully service this event.  For more information, please contact the Crooked Arrows Native Nations Premiere Office at 424-216-8108 or
premiere@crookedarrows.com.

Spend a Week at Harvard Business School!
Apply for Harvard Business School's Summer Venture in Management Program
Application Deadline: May 16, 2012

The Harvard Business School (HBS) Summer Venture in Management Program (SVMP) is a one week management training program for rising college seniors designed to increase diversity and opportunity in business education. This thirty-year HBS tradition demonstrates the many rewards of an MBA degree to students who may not otherwise have considered this path. Participants spend a week on campus living the MBA student experience – attending classes, analyzing case studies, and debating management issues with peers and faculty.

This unique educational experience, in combination with a summer internship at a sponsoring company or organization, gives participants a broader understanding of the challenges business leaders face, the
innumerable opportunities that exist in management, and the impact they can have on their community and the world through leadership.

Participants will be selected based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, and personal characteristics. Consistent with the objective of promoting educational diversity and opportunity in
business leadership, additional criteria to be considered among others, are whether the applicant is:
  • The first family member to attend college
  • A member of a group that is currently underrepresented in business schools and corporate America (e.g. African-American, Latino, Native American, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender)
  • From a family with little business education or experience; and/or
  • From a school whose graduates do not typically attend a top-tier university (e.g., attends a rural or predominantly minority college, or has attended a community college as part of a four-year degree).

The SVMP Application will be available online in February 2012. The deadline is May 16, 2012. To apply and for more information about this program, please visit the SVMP website: http://www.hbs.edu/mba/svmp/
